Keep this glossary handy when a Core8 term or UI label isn’t clear. Each entry links to the concept or workflow page where it matters.

Core8 objects

  • Team member (personnel): A person in your org (often a rep) who can participate in deals and have plans assigned over time.
  • Commission deal: The deal record Core8 uses for commission logic and calculations (separate from your CRM’s native deal object).
  • Deal participant: A person credited on a commission deal (for example: an AE and an SDR on the same deal).

Commission timing

  • Accrual Period: How Core8 groups commission activity into periods (commonly monthly or quarterly).
  • Payout Period: How often commissions are paid out. This can be the same as (or different from) the accrual period.
  • Anchor Mode: Which event/date determines when a deal is considered in-scope (for example: closed-won date, contract signature date, invoice date, or payment received date).
  • Anchor Date: The specific derived date used for a deal (based on the anchor mode). It drives ordering and “which period” a deal lands in.
  • Deal Relevance Mode: Another name for Anchor Mode (the timing anchor that drives period grouping).
  • Selection Date: The date Core8 uses to decide which plan is eligible for a deal/participant. It must fall within the plan’s effective window.
  • Effective Date: The earliest selection date that makes a plan eligible (paired with an optional end date).
  • True-Up Period: An optional cadence used to reconcile prior periods (for example, quarterly true-ups).

Calculations and status

  • Calculation: The process that turns a deal + plan + variables into commission amounts and statuses.
  • Eligibility Gate: A rule that blocks payout until a condition is met (commonly invoice or payment). These often appear as “Waiting” statuses.
  • Attainment: Progress toward a quota/target, often used to determine when accelerators apply.
  • Split: A deal shared by multiple participants (for example, two reps sharing a percentage of credit).

Data and edits

  • Variables: Named inputs used by commission plans (deal fields, customer fields, personnel fields, dates, flags, etc.).
  • Source Values: The raw values Core8 pulled from connected systems or uploaded documents.
  • Effective Values: The values used for calculation after applying any approved edits or overrides.
  • User Edits: Manual updates made in Core8 that change the effective values used for calculations.

Plans

  • Plan Selection: The logic that decides which commission plan applies to a participant for a given deal and time period.
  • Plan Assignment: A mapping that applies a plan to a team member for a specific effective window.

Common acronyms

  • ACV: Annual Contract Value.
  • TCV: Total Contract Value.
  • MRR: Monthly Recurring Revenue.
  • SDR: Sales Development Representative.
  • AE: Account Executive.

Common pitfalls

  • If data looks incomplete, start in Data Hub (Deals/Customers/Team Members) before debugging plans.
  • If a deal is Waiting, check Eligibility Gates to see which input is missing.
  • If you changed inputs and nothing moved, trigger a recalculation from Commission Status.
